Updating more than one garmin

I assumed that Express would only download the maps once and update the second device from the already downloaded maps. When I hit the Update button for the second device it downloaded the maps again. It said it was downloading on the status screen and it took just as long to update as the first time. I thought I had seen posts in here that it only needed to download the maps once to update multiple devices??
